De strandleeuwerik in zijn naamgevende habitat. Op het strand op de hoogwaterlijn zoekt hij voedsel in aangespoeld dood zeegras. Een echte specialist die door zijn kleine formaat en goede schutkleur vaak onopgemerkt blijft. En ook omdat wandelaars c.q. vogelaars meest bij voorkeur de lagere natte delen van het strand opzoeken.

The horned lark in its name-giving habitat. On the beach at the high tide marker line, searching for food in small patches of dead sea grass. A real specialist which often goes unnoticed due to its small size and well camouflaging colours. And also because beachwalkers/birders by preference move along the lower and wetter parts of the beach.

Net zichtbaar zijn de twee kleine karakteristieke zwarte 'hoorntjes' die achterwaards uitsteken op de kruin.

Just visible are the two characteristic small black 'horns', pointing rearwards from the back of its crown.
