South Luangwa (Zambia) - Waterbirds and Waders

We visited South Luangwa during the dry season in August. The Luwi tributary still had quite some pools of standing water. Away from the river, however soils and pools were already very dry. Not the right season to see waterbirds and waders at their best.  Nonetheless we saw a fair number of the more common resident waterbirds birds and got a few within photographic reach.

The Hamerkop (Scopus umbretta)

The Saddle-billed Stork (Ephippiorhynchus senegalensis)
